From Sketch to Wallpaper

Most of my patterns don’t start at my desk — they start on my daily walks.
I head out for a bit of fresh air and almost always come back with an idea instead. Nature has a sneaky way of doing that. The colors, the seasons, and especially the small Swedish animals I run into along the way. I somehow always manage to arrive right when something slightly funny is happening — two birds chatting, or a couple of hedgehogs waddling across the path loóking super cute.
That’s usually when my nursery pattern ideas start to come to life.
Back home, I always start the same way — with my graphite pencils.
Graphite has been my favorite medium for as long as I can remember. There’s something really satisfying about sketching with pencil first. It’s simple, forgiving, and surprisingly versatile. With a few good graphite pencils, you can create so much character and movement.
This is where the ideas start to take shape — loose sketches, playful animals, and patterns slowly forming on paper.
Once I’m happy with the sketch, I bring everything into Procreate. That’s where I refine the lines, play with colors, and start building the final repeat pattern. It’s also where the design really starts to come alive.
From nature walks and curious hedgehog to graphite sketches and digital color palettes — every wallpaper begins with a small moment of inspiration.
And honestly, that’s my favorite part of the whole process.
